Control of Major Industrial Accidents

Plants in which significant quantities of chemicals are used, produced or stored, are at risk of major industrial accidents. Their consequences can be quite severe and extensive. Plant personnel and infrastructure are affected first. The provisions implemented in Poland according to European Union requirements (Seveso II Directive) establish a system of controlling major industrial accidents, which includes tasks and procedures for prevention of, preparedness for and response to accidents.

The Institute's activities:

-  development, implementation and promotion of tools supporting tasks and procedures of a system of preventing major accidents by enterprises and competent authorities (guidelines, databases, recommended procedures)

-  methods of controlling dangerous chemical substances - not present in normal conditions - in emergencies.
